Calabash Kitchen
Our open-air, beachfront restaurant specialises
in seafood dishes, is inspired by Ghanaian cuisine and takes advantage
of the diversity of fresh, local ingredients. We take pride in our menu
and have made a special effort to produce interesting and more unusual
dishes alongside Ghanaian favourites. Our specialities include Coconut
Fish Curry made with fresh coconuts from our own trees, Bar-b-queued
Barracuda served with Mango and Avocado Salsa and Traditional Jollof
Rice with Chicken. We have our own traditionally built clay oven in
which we bake all our own bread.
Start your day with French Toast served
with banana and local honey accompanied by a pot of freshly brewed cafetière
coffee. Treat yourself to a Prawn Caldine or snack on Guacamole and
Plantain Chips and a Spicy Papaye Salad. Those people missing a bit
of home cooking can enjoy our Bangers and Mash or pasta dishes. We also
ensure we cater for vegetarians with options such as homemade Satay
Sauce or Sweet and Sour Vegetables.

We pride ourselves on the freshness
of our ingredients. Our fish couldn’t be fresher: the local fisherman
call to us from their dugout canoe, holding up the day’s catch
for us to see from the beach. Then someone from Green Turtle (staff
or occasionally even a guest) will then swim out to the canoe and return
clutching the fish. The fish is then prepared and served that evening.
Now that is fresh! And it’s more fun than going to the supermarket
too!
Papaye Lounge
The beach bar is the sociable heart of the
lodge. The thatched roof and open air structure provides welcome shade
from the sun. Papaye Lounge has comfortable sofas and beachfront hammocks
which are a perfect place to relax with a book or simply lie back and
watch the ocean. We have a book swap and a selection of beach and board
games. Test your knowledge at Trivial Pursuit or, if you are feeling
more energetic, take out a Frisbee or borrow a body-board and brave
the waves. On return to the bar, refresh yourself with freshly squeezed
fruit juice or maybe you would prefer a cocktail. Try the favourite
‘Green Turtle’ or a more traditional ‘Pina Colada’
made with fresh pineapple juice and coconut milk from the fruits of
our own coconut palms. Our cocktails are very popular – especially
in Happy Hour!
